‘California Girls’ is a song written by Mike Love and Brian Wilson and recorded by The Beach Boys in 1965, but David Lee did his own version in 1985.
The song is off the David Lee Roth album ‘Crazy from the
Heat’ and was his debut solo release. It was released while he was still a
member of the popular group Van Halen. Roth’s version of ‘California Girls’
peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The video for David Lee’s version of the song begins with
what looks like some sort of twilight zone episode. Although the video has many
shots of gorgeous women in their bikinis the dream state fee that the video has
remains.
This may be due to the well known fact that the music for
the song came from Brian Wilson's (of the beach boys) first LSD experience.
As well, Brian Wilson claims that not only did this
particular LSD trip produce one of his greatest compositions, the song, but it
also paved the way for the mental illness which would strike him later in life.
