‘What Hurts the Most’ was originally a country music song written by Jeffrey Steele and Steve Robson.

However, in 2007, the song was covered by the German dance group Cascada. It was released as the first single of their second album, Perfect Day. The single was first released in Sweden, hitting #5 and then released on December 4 in the US.
